HAPPY MAY DAY!

HAPPY MAY DAY!
I recently purchased a 'May Day Gathering Basket' from Honeysuckle Lane. She makes the cutiest items. With the 'Gathering Basket' was this little story I thought I would share with you today...

A book written for young girls in 1887 tells of a tradition in merrie England in which maids and matrons would go out bright and early on the first day of May and wash their faces in the fresh dew. The dew, they believed, held magical qualities, which kept them looking young and beautiful for a year. Some ladies even went so far as to gather and save the glistening dew to moisten their faces until May 1st came round again.

I loved May Day growing up. I was so disappointed to find most kids in California have no idea about it. We had such fun decorating baskets filled with flowers and candy, then leaving them on neighbors' doorknobs.

Thanks for reminding me it is a special day!

I'm glad you had a nice, safe trip and got to catch up with Pat and some others at the city!

And a happy May Day to you too, IT. By the way, I returned the favor and added you to my Writer's Cafe list. I've been slowly rebuilding my links to favorite places.
