HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Okay...spring is peaking it's head out from beneath the dark winter sky. Summer will soon follow! We have lived in our new home for almost three years...it will be three years this coming November. When we initially moved in we had no backyard. Well, that's not to say there was a concrete patio slab...but not much else. We began with installing a fence, that was quite a project given it was winter. But, we accomplished it. The fence was installed! Then for the last two spring and summers we have worked very hard to get the grass green and putting in borders, trees, shrubs and of course a flower or two. We still need to add a few things to the backyard, but it's pretty much complete. The only problem we faced was what to do about the concrete slab. It makes a wonderful patio, but since our backyard faces south. That means lots of summer sun and a hot patio.

We finally have solved the problem. Upon a recent trip to our local Lowe's, we found the most wonderful patio cover and pretty cheap. Only $399! We could not build anything for that price. So without further delay, here is our new home improvement project....

The new patio cover is starting to take shape. It's a 13 x 13 patio...the new cover is 10 x 10.

Oh...I'm getting excited, the frame up!

Dear sweet hubby worked so hard, along with his faithful helper Abbie Girl!

IT'S UP! YIPEE! Isn't it beautiful?

I'm about to sit down with a glass of ice tea and a section of the newspaper. It's so grand to now have some shade and enjoy our backyard.

I do believe Miss Lilly enjoys the new backyard too!

LOOK WHAT I RECEIVED...

Upon my return home from our California trip...I had a couple of goodies waiting me in the post box....

This beautiful 'May Day' basket from Honeysucklelane. Isn't it just the cutiest little basket? The bottle hanging from the wire handle can't be more than a 1/2 inch long. It's so dainty. I love it! Please pop on over to Honeysucklelane @ http://honeysucklelane.blogspot.com/ You won't be disappointed. She has the nicest blog and you will love her designs.

Then I opened the package from Delila over at Sepia Art Studio. It's beautiful, don't you think? It's called 'Alice's Tea Party'. I just had to have it! The necklace is made with gorgeous torquoise glass beads with one torquoise button added for a touch of detail. The charm itself is made up of a silver spoon, an ever so little teacup, and a vintage doll's leg...reminding you of 'Alice'. I adore it. You must visit Delila over at Sepia-Art-Studio @ http://www.sepia-art-studio.typepad.com/
She makes the most marvelous items all refering to nature, and of course her jewerly is something to see.

You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me. ~C.S. Lewis

ROAD TRIP - DAYS 5 & 6

What a great time we had in 'sunny' Southern California! Daughter dear and darling boyfriend showed us a grand time. They certainly pampered us during our stay! Darling boyfriend was able to secure four 'Anaheim Angels' baseball tickets. I'm not talking just regular tickets! We were treated to the 'Diamond Area'. You ask...'what's that?' Well, here are just a few photo's to explain....
Angel Stadium...the anticipation is rising...
Here are sweet hubby, darling boyfriend and daughter dear!
We enter the stadium at 'homeplate'...
Only to be greeted by this...an in-service restaurant!
An in-service bar area....
and....outdoor eating. Notice the white tablecloth's! I never new such an area existed at the ball park!
To add to the excitement...there's no need to go to the concession stands! There is in-seat service. A waiter comes to you, takes your order...and just like that your food is served! How's that for service...a 'chicken ceasar salad'! Does this look like baseball food?
Look how close we were...eleven rows from homeplate!

It was a fantastic day!

(Unfortunately, the Angels lost to the Mariners - 4 to 2!)

A few other photo's to share!

Darling daughter and sweet boyfriend!

Daddy and his girl!

An introduction to 'Golden Spoons'! This was utterly sinful...it's a combination of flavors! Cakebatter and peanutbutter cup! YUMMY!

This is one of the reasons we left Southern California! If any of you have ever visited you will surely remember the traffic! This photo was taken on a Sunday morning, driving into Orange County! Complete MADNESS!

WHAT A TRIP! But, I'm so glad to be going home! I'm just pooped!

ROAD TRIP - DAYS 3 & 4

I've been spending the last couple of days with daughter dear. We've been all over....shopping, talking, and more shopping! Daughter dearest also took me to the most luxurious retreat that only pampers the hands and feet. I was thrust into oblivion with the most tantilizing manicure and pedicure. It was pure bliss! We're talking serious manicures and pedicures. I was indulged not with just one person doing the manicure and pedicure; but with two people! Both actually working on my hands and feet at the same time. Can you imagine? Just when I thought I was all done...some other special treatment would be bestowed upon me. I'm talking warm lotions, warm towels and totally wonderful massages of my hands and feet!
...some of us are actually working though!

Yes...actually working!

The outdoor version of hubby's office!

A view of the office ceiling, giant Oaks above!

As daughter and I traverse the local shops, I'm surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna! I'm in heaven...as Utah is still just on the brink of spring. California is bursting with color. I'm so enjoying all the spectacular greenery and the warm sunshine.

Sunshine, flowers and a small creek! What could be better than this?

ROAD TRIP - DAYS 1 & 2

We are on a road trip- YIPEE!

Are we there yet?

No, not yet!

Are you sure we're not there yet?

Nope....still not yet!

We're here-YEA! Puppies and I are glad to be out of the Big Red Truck! This will be our little abode for the next few days! We are in a lovely campground just outside Corona, California called Glen Ivy Hot Springs. Yes, it's an actual hot springs!

The Big Red Truck got us safely to sunny California!

Dear Mother even made it through the long drive. Here we are having dinner out with lovely, sweet daughter! It's great to be back in sunny Southern California!

ROAD TRIP

We're off to Sunny Southern California!
(We're hoping it's sunny!)
Not sure when I'll get to post on this road trip. I'll surely take my camera and try to post photo's along the way. It should be quite an experience. We're taking my mother along. So imagine....
One Dodge truck, pulling one small trailer, with...
hubby, me & mother dear, along with...
four dogs in tow!
Hubby has business to attend to. Mother has a wedding to attend to. I am just going along to have fun and enjoy spend time with daughter dear.
(The dogs just come along for the joy of the ride!)

I TOTALLY DID IT!

I finished the Hexagon Crochet Scarf...I did it! Not having really crocheted before, I was able to actually read the pattern and produce this beautifully crochet scarf. The scarf is now hanging on the class wall of the knit shop. It's really surreal to walk in and see something that I created, that I made being displayed in an actual shop. So far...no sign ups for the class. Even if no one signs up for the May class, atleast I know that I accomplished a huge task by even attempting to crochet this scarf.
I was a little concerned about the edging and joining. The directions seemed like I was reading a science experiment. You join the hexagon pieces as you crochet the edging.

As you can see though! .....I did it!

MOTTO of this post ....don't be afraid to try something new! You may find that you surprise even yourself!

PS....Someone asked in a comment from previous post about the fiber content! Yes, it's 100% cotton.

THIS COULD BECOME ADDICTIVE!

This could become addictive...crocheting! I was asked by the knitting shop where I'm working to teach a class. Yes, you heard right! Teach a class...I'm a little nervous...never taught anything before...never really crocheted before. Okay, who hasn't made a 'granny square or too'? But, to actually read a pattern and to make something from it and then teach it. EEEK! I'm gasping...I said sure I'll do that!
I brought home the pattern, the beautiful Tahiki 'Cotton Classic' yarn and off I went. And, guess what? I even surprised myself. I DID IT! I read the pattern ever so carefully and actually created the scarf. I'm just working on the border and joining stitches now. I'm hoping to get this scarf completed and to the shop tomorrow. Can you believe it?....me teaching a class!

Here are the makings of the 'Hexagon Scarf'.

If you look closely, you can see the scarf made up in the magazine photo.

I'm so excited that I actually was able to read a crochet pattern. I'm making another scarf in different colors. See....I said it was addictive.

I've fallen in love with a new yarn...Tahki 'Cotton Classic'.

The colors of this yarn are beautiful...it's so hard to go to the shop to actually work! But, it does support my growing habit!

Wishing you all a happy week ahead!
