Debbie's Visit

Ms. Debbie Macomber visited the yarn shop this week. It was an exciting event and the meet and greet was the highlight of her visit. There were about 20 individuals who got to personnally meet with Ms. Macomber and we listened to her storytelling for well over an hour. It was fascinating. She told wonderful stories about her life and her writings. She also talked about her family and her life in Washington. Did you know that her office is located in a turret of her home? And, that the walls of the stairway leading up to her turret are filled with autographs of authors who have come before her. She said that she had such autographs as Hemmingway and Pearl S. Buck. How inspiring that must be to look at those magnificent signatures of such famed artist. Spending time with Ms. Macomber was uplifting and inspiring. I was just amazed at all that she has actually written. Most of my collection of her writing only include the Blossom Street series.
We all left a little wiser and happier after Debbie Macomber's visit.

The shawl that I did for Ms. Macomber's visit was a big success. It now hangs in the shop on the cutiest 'sheep' hanger.

A close up of the pattern. It really came out very nice, I think! This pattern was a free gift that Debbie gave to those who visited her at 'The Wool Cabin'.

Thank you for taking a short visit with famed author Debbie Macomber.

ENOUGH!!!!!

Enough is Enough! I've been away for awhile ....knitting of course! Only this time, I've had enough. My hands are sore, my eyes are tired, everything else has gone on the backburner ...including 'blogland'. I've decided enough is enough and I'm done, atleast with this project.
************************
Debbie Macomber author and novice knitter is visiting the knit shop where I work. Yes, indeed! She will be visiting on Wednesday, May 28th for a book signing and then a private meet and greet. Needless to say I'm signed up for the meet and greet and will be bringing mother dear along. Debbie Macomber will be here to sign her new book 'Twenty Wishes'. I've been so busy knitting, I have not even been able to read her new book. As the story goes ....

************************
I go to work a few weeks ago. Just like normal, nothing unusual. But then I arrive at the knit shop and notice a new pattern sitting on the counter. It's for a beautiful lace shawl. The pattern is from Debbie Macomber ...it's to be a free gift for those attending the book signing. Well, shop owner wanted a sample of the shawl made up and I inadvertently said ....'Oh, I'll do that for you!' I just don't know where the words come from? I hear them, I know that I'm saying them ...but, then I say to myself 'was that me, did I say that?' Oh my, did I get myself into a pickle this time. On a time crunch, knitting something that will be seen by all ...oh my! I really did it this time!
************************
Famed author Debbie Macomber.

She will be visiting to sign her latest book. 'Twenty Wishes'.

I'm done! I can't knit another stitch.

This is the knitted shawl for Debbie's visit. It needs blocking, but you can see the detail.

The little pattern that was sitting at work that started this whole thing!

***************************

After endless hours of knitting, I finally stopped last night. Though I could have probably put another 12" or so on the shawl, I just can't do anymore. It's finished, it's going to the shop today for blocking and fringe. I'm done. Oh, please, please don't let me say 'Oh, I'll do that for you!' anymore.

CAMPIN' AGAIN!

We took off this past weekend for camping and a group meeting with the 'Salty Teardrops' in Bryce Canyon, Utah. It was a specatular weekend and loaded with lots of fun! It twas' a bit on the cold side...the lowest night temperature was 30 degrees. I underestimated where we were going ...needless to say I'm restocking my camping gear to include parka's, beanie's and gloves!
*********
Now for the trip! You ask, 'What is the Salty Teardrop' group? Well, it's a group of people ....young and old who have a fasination with teardrop trailers. Teardrop trailers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We're lucky to have finally found a group here in the Salt Lake City Valley. There were people from Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and of course Utah at this particular campout! It was loads of fun and we met lots of wonderful people! Now you may be asking what is a 'Teardrop Trailer'? Where here it is .....

Here it is ...our tiny little 'Teardrop' ....and yes, we absolutely sleep in it!
As you can see by the picture ...it's a matched set! The teardrop and the cruiser! We look very stylish driving the open highways with our teardrop trailer!

Here we are at the campground and a closer look at out little home away from home!

An inside view ....see I told you that we sleep inside. It's so cozy and surprisingly lots of room.

Another view of the interior. There are even cabinets inside for nightly necessities, clothes and a place for our music. We never travel with television or radio ...only our Ipod. We totally get away from it all when we travel or camp!

Here's one of the spectacular views from our campsite! If you have not been to Bryce Canyon before ...it's definitely worth the trip!

Another view! I took lots of pictures, but won't post them all. I would surely bore you!

Here is our little camp set up! This is the kitchen area!

Complete with hot tea! We never leave home without our tea!

I even took a little knitting, even though I didn't get much of that done!

And ....last, but not least ....the biffy! I totally have to have this when camping with the teardrop!

Driving through 'Red Canyon' upon approaching Bryce!

This is a picture of the rock formations within the canyon. They are quite spectacular.

These formations are called 'Hoo-Doos'. Something we learned this weekend! The definition is Hoodoo \Hoo"doo\, n. A natural rock pile or pinnacle of fantastic shape. [Western U. S.] The formations are caused by billions of years of erosion. I thought I'd share that bit of information with you today.

*****

I hope you enjoyed traveling with me. I will post a few other photo's on a later post. I'll try to include a few other sample's of teardrop trailers and a few more scene's of Bryce Canyon.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

The 'Swashbuckling Pirate Soiree' has ended quite too soon I must say. Though I still seem to be sailing the ocean seas. I do hope to complete my journey soon, it's just that there was pirate business that needed tending, so I've been absent for awhile. The Soiree was and still is a wonderful journey visiting all the fair maidens who participated in the high seas adventure. I am truely amazed at the wonderful talent that these fair maidens hold. The Soiree has been a grand adventure and I applaud all the fair maidens who exhibited their treasures of gold and silver.
This adventure would not have taken place, thus it weren't for the Queen herself. You can still sail on over to The Ribboned Crown ...Donna still has the links to all the fair maidens who attended this 'Pirate Soiree'. http://donnaobrien.typepad.com/the_ribboned_crown/

**********

I thank you Ms. Donna for the grand high seas adventure and letting us all participate in the party!
**********
One final note....I won! Yes, indeed. The Queen herself drew my name from the treasure chest and I won! I can hardly believe it....but there amongst the silver and gold was my name!

WELCOME ABOARD!

YO-HO, YO-HO IT'S A PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!

Welcome aboard fair maidens! The fairest of maidens Donna O’Brien is hosting a ‘Swashbuckling Pirate Soiree’ and all fair maidens are invited. Be aware there may be villains, scoundrels and enemies. But I have heard that the great pirate himself, Jack Sparrow will be in attendance. Put down your swords and daggers for today we celebrate.
*****

Dress in only your finest ....for Fair Maiden Donna is celebrating her one year blog-a-versary with a 'Swashbuckling Pirate Soiree'. The only requirement involved is to RSVP and then create something special to be posted upon your vessel for all to see.
*****

I have removed my sword and dagger. My crew is above on deck cleaning and polishing so that my ship will be well prepared to make sail. I have been under deck designing something special for the grand Soiree. I have used jewels from buried treasures and the brightest pearls from the sea. Any respectful fair maiden would have this displayed in her boudoir in hopes of enticing Sir Jack himself into the her ship’s state room.
*****

I am now dressed in my finest and ready to set sail for tomorrow the adventure of a lifetime begins! I do hope that you will come along. Fair Maiden Donna has posted all those attending, so that you may see what has been created for this special ‘Swashbuckling Pirate Soiree’.

No fair maiden should be without a pearl and gold encrusted pillow for her boudoir.

Only the finest of jewels from my treasure chest....

and, only the finest of the ocean's pearls adorn it.

Any rightful young maiden would only use the finest of French textiles...

As I set sail to attend the party of the year.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to lure Jack Sparrow himself onto my fine ship and into my state room. Yo-ho, yo-ho ....it's a pirates life for me!

***************

Thank you Fair Maiden Donna for hosting such an exquisite event!

GET READY TO SET SAIL!

Set out the rum and prepare to cast off. Donna O'Brien from The Ribboned Crown is hosting a 'Swashbuckling Pirate Soiree' tomorrow to commemorate her 'blog-a-versary'! Sounds like tons of fun. I can't wait for the party to begin. So, set sail and go over to see more on Donna's Soiree http://donnaobrien.typepad.com/the_ribboned_crown/

HAPPY MAY DAY!

HAPPY MAY DAY!
I recently purchased a 'May Day Gathering Basket' from Honeysuckle Lane. She makes the cutiest items. With the 'Gathering Basket' was this little story I thought I would share with you today...

A book written for young girls in 1887 tells of a tradition in merrie England in which maids and matrons would go out bright and early on the first day of May and wash their faces in the fresh dew. The dew, they believed, held magical qualities, which kept them looking young and beautiful for a year. Some ladies even went so far as to gather and save the glistening dew to moisten their faces until May 1st came round again.
